The Top 5 Highlands NC Waterfalls

The North Carolina Waterfall Byway is the best way to see waterfalls without the strain of hiking. This route follows Highway 64 for 98 miles and includes over 200 waterfalls. However, we encourage you to get off the beaten path and explore these Highlands, NC, waterfalls:

1. Dry Falls

Dry Falls is a 75-foot waterfall in the Cullasaja Gorge. An easily accessible observation area is adjacent to the parking lot, offering a quick view of the falls. Or follow the trail from the parking area for a unique opportunity to walk behind the waterfall. 

2. Cullasaja Falls

Cullasaja Falls is a 250-foot waterfall seen from the roadside on US Highway 64. There is a small parking area next to the waterfall where you can pull off and enjoy the views. Keep in mind that this waterfall has no signage or official trail. 

3. Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls is a unique waterfall located directly on Highway 64. You could once drive behind the waterfall, but the road has been re-routed for safety. Today, you can still park next to the falls and walk under the waterfall. 

4. Glen Falls

Glen Falls features a series of three waterfalls along the 2.5-mile Glen Falls Trail. The hike is a gradual descent with 400 feet in elevation change. A half mile into your walk, you’ll come across the upper section of the waterfall that drops around 70 feet. Continue down the trail for another ⅓ mile to reach the 60-foot middle section of the falls. 

5. Bust Your Butt Falls

This waterfall is a popular summer destination due to the swimming hole at the bottom of the falls. Make sure you carefully navigate the boulders, so you don’t bust your butt at these falls!
